He raised his family in Eagle, and they have continued to serve Colorado residents through the Allen Insurance Agency to this day.
”On March 6, 1931, Dorris Johnson from the First National Bank of Glenwood accepted a position as bookkeeper in the First National Bank in Eagle, CO. Mr. Johnson has worked in the bank here before for short intervals, so that he is not a stranger to patrons of the bank.”
Dorris “D.E.” Johnson, would later marry J.D. Allen’s daughter Jean Allen and they too raised their family in Eagle Co.
“On September 4, 1958, J. D. Allen, president of the First National Bank of Eagle bounty made public this week, the appointment of Gene K. Luby as cashier. Mr. Luby has been assistant cashier in the past, and his appointment was made following the resignation of George White, who has moved to Denver. Mary Frances Gamble and Jack Phillips have been appointed assistant cashiers and Pauline Rochford, bookkeeper. Mrs. Rochford recently joined the staff at the bank. Rounding out the force are D. E. “On April 23, 1964, Joe Allen, president of the First National Bank of Eagle County for 44 years passed in Eagle. He began his banking career in Glenwood Springs; worked for a short time in a bank at Red Cliff; then joined the First National Bank at Eagle in 1919, taking over its operation in 1921 and starting the Allen Insurance Agency in 1922. Upon his death D.E Johnson, his son-in-law and vice president of the First National Bank took over the Allen Insurance Agency and moved to a new location. Across the street a new office space for Allen Insurance Agency is being built in a part of the old pool hall, formerly owned by Billy Morgan. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Wilson now own the building. When they bought it, they remodeled the electric appearance, TV and radio shop, adding to it part of the pool hall, and remodeled into an attractive new Store. They are now remodeling the remaining section of the building, adding an attractive front, matching the one on their store. This space will be occupied by D. E. Johnson, when he moves his insurance agency from the bank, after the first of the year. Further improvements included the new Serv-U Shop building completed a year ago by Mr. and Mrs. Dennie Eaton.”
During the early 1970’s, Stephen Allen “Kinko” Johnson went to work for his father, D. E. Johnson in the late 70’s he bought the Agency form D. E., and ran the business until his death in 2018. Following Steve’s passing his brother William S. Johnson and family took over running the business. Now a fourth generation of the family is continuing to serve the community into the future.
